Timothy Blackman Receives Nomination

Congratulations are in order to Gimmick Club alum, Timothy Blackman, who recently received five Detroit Music Award nominations. Nominated for his production on "92 Days" by Kristianna, Blackman is also nominated for awards such as "Outstanding Rap Producer" and "Outstanding Urban Musician." I had a chance to catch up with Blackman to speak on his initial reaction to the nominations.

"Yeah, I basically was looking at the ballot to cast my vote for my favorite Detroit artists and I saw my name on it." Said Blackman, he continued "I was pretty excited to finally make the ballot this year."

The Detroit Music Awards, which take place May 4th At the Fillmore in Detroit, are hosted by the Detroit Music Awards Foundation. Blackman praised the non-profit foundation for their networking events and promotional opportunities.

"It was interesting because it involves a lot of networking and elbow-bumping. I'm a bit introverted so it really kinda takes me out of my comfort zone to go up to people and promote myself. The DMA Foundation really does a great job of providing networking events for artists and other music industry professionals so over time, it became more comfortable for me to promote my music and skills to these guys."

In regards to the awards themselves, Blackman thanked the tremendous support he's received since breaking the news.

"It was incredible seeing the support I received throughout the process and beyond from both my Ohio and my Michigan peeps. Even though I didn't advance to the final selections, the support I received from my Ohio peeps and my Michigan folks definitely reassured me that I'm on the right track. To all of you, I just want to say thank you for motivating to be better, and supporting the vision/movement. For real."
