Eight Places To Visit In Downriver Michigan.

Downriver Michigan, a collection of 18-cities that run along the Detroit River. Downriver is filled with some of the best tourist attractions few have ever heard about. Consisting of great family- owned businesses, and vibrant riverfront parks. Downriver cities offer access to a large number of fun activities. Offering small-city environments with occasional big-city feels, this is a list of places you should visit once traveling to Downriver Michigan.
1) Bishop park Wyndotte, Michigan 48192
Bishop Park, a beautiful park overlooking the Detroit River. This park consists of the natural kid- friendly elements one should expect while visiting a park. Bishop Park also showcases a beautiful waterfront view, having access to watching boat cruise alongside the river. This attraction is one of the best parks throughout all of Downriver. This park offers far more than beautiful scenery, as additional content this park offers include riverfront tours from the company “Diamond-jack.” Along with riverfront tours, you’re also able to participate in fishing off the pier. A hobby highly recommended by the park staff.
2) Whisky on the Water.

Named after Tyler Farr’ song, “Whiskey in my Water.” Whiskey on the water is located immediately by Bishop Park, this bar and grill also offer an outside view overlooking the riverfront. Delivering great food and drinks in the process, Whisky on the Water is a restaurant for those looking for great food and a casual ambiance. With food options such as it’s highly recommended Whisky Glazed Salmon or its brunch options, featuring the Whisky’s Chicken and Waffles, its food options are fairly extensive for those looking for a bite to eat. Along with its food options, Whisky on the Water also has a great drink selection as well. With 24 beers on tap, their bar selection is highlighted by their whiskey and bourbon options, creating their twenty original cocktails.
3) Elizabeth Park

Elizabeth Park features another area located by the beautiful Detroit River. Visitors often participate in one of the best fishing spots in downriver Michigan, where guest commonly fish off the park’s pier. Among the activities at the park, the biggest attraction is their pony rides. Younger visitors take pony rides around the interior of the park. Alongside participating in activities such as kayaking, Elizabeth Park remains one of the cleanest parks throughout Michigan. Making it one of the best picnic spots for anyone looking to settle and enjoy the Michigan scenery.
4) Apple Charlie's Orchards
38035 S Huron Rd, New Boston, MI 48164
With the apple picking season here, Apple Charlie’s located in New Boston should be the premier destination for anyone looking to attend an apple orchard. The experience, alongside the freshly made apple cider and ranging options of donuts, is one of the highlights offered from Apple Charlie’s. Alongside the food, Apple Charlie’s also offers live entertainment, coming with hay rides, pony rides, and animals on display for you to view and feed. For anyone looking to enjoy the fall experience in downriver Michigan, it’s recommended that you visit this orchard if you’re looking to truly enjoy apples, donuts, live entertainment, and fresh cider.
5) Downriver Council For the Arts
81 Chestnut St, Wyandotte, MI.
For those looking to attend a wonderfully diverse art gallery, the DCA remains one of the best places for those to visit. Showcasing many of downriver Michigan’s most talented artist, the DCA is another gem located in Wyandotte Michigan. This arts and cultural organization offer several galleries, displays and art classes for visitors to attend.With several themed exhibits like it's upcoming “The Art of Fashion,” an art exhibit inspired by the world of fashion and textiles. It’s common that most of the artwork presented is also for sale. All visitors are welcomed as the exhibit and receptions are free and open to the public. As described on their website, “Our goal to create complete artist and patron experiences with a visual art exhibit, artist demonstrations, panel discussions, and workshops.”
6) Clever Clues Escape Room
14741 Champaign Rd, Allen Park, MI 48101
For those looking for more entertaining businesses to visit throughout Downriver Michigan, look no further than the team based experience at Clever Clues Escape Room.
For those of you who don’t know, an escape room is described as “An immersive, team based gaming experience where a group of people solve sequences of puzzles to complete a mission and get out of the “locked” room within 60 minutes.”
For first time visitors of the escape room experience, CCER offers the best experience for any group looking to enjoy what the puzzle game has to offer. Owned by local residents, Monica, and Greg Howes. This escape room offers two themes, nuclear reactor meltdown or a precinct, both varying levels of difficulty. Anyone looking to enjoy the puzzle experience without being locked inside a room. The co-owners have developed a phone application which is designed to function as a scavenger hunt through Allen Park. The app is available and free for all devices.
7) Bierkeller
20085 Goddard Rd, Taylor, MI 48180
One of the highest rated restaurants though the downriver area, and ClickOnDetroit’s winner for “Best Beer Selection.” This German-inspired tavern and eatery offer over 30 different draft selections while providing a homely feel to each of its customers. The German flair expands far beyond the beer selection, as the restaurant has its weekly “German night” every Wednesday. With its menu ranging from its "Famous Spaetzle," to its delicious "Oma Goodness, Schnitzel" this restaurant should be a visit for everyone in the downriver area.
8) Grosse Ile Township
The only Township to make this list, Grosse Ile Township, is currently ranked at #1 as the safest city in Michigan. This township is also home to Elizabeth Park, and fun arcades such as "Rev’d Up Fun." While safety isn’t necessarily equal to the fun. This Township offers plenty of activities to partake such as helicopter tours through Max Flights Helicopter. For those looking to visit downriver Michigan, Grosse Ile Township has some of the best riverfront views and a small- town feel to its visitors.
